Comparison of the Metabolic Profile between Unstimulated and Stimulated Saliva Samples from Pregnant Women with/without Obesity and Periodontitis

This study aimed to compare the metabolic profile of unstimulated (US) and stimulated (SS) saliva samples from pregnant women with/without obesity periodontitis. Ninety-six were divided into: + periodontitis (OP = 20); obesity/no (OWP 27); normal BMI (NP BMI/no (NWP 29). US SS collected by expectoration chewing sterilized parafilm gum, respectively, individually analyzed Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H-NMR). Univariate (t test correlations) multivariate (Principal Component Analysis–PCA, Partial Least Square–Discriminant Analysis—PLS-DA with Variance Importance Projection–VIP scores) Metabolite Set Enrichment Analysis done (p < 0.05). Metabolites commonly found in all groups elevated concentration 5-Aminopentoate, Acetic acid, Butyric Propionic Pyruvic Succinic acid. They mainly related butyrate metabolism, citric acid cycle, amino sugar fatty acids biosynthesis, pyruvate glutamate Warburg effect. that Citrulline, Fumaric Histidine, N-acetyl glutamine, N-acetylneuraminic para-hydroxyphenylacetic Proline, Tyrosine. Although some differences between periodontitis, collection seems adequate, demonstrating similar pathways when are compared.
